Summary

Newlywed Jade Westmore has finally found her forever in husband Wells, a charming, successful, and recently divorced architect—only there’s one caveat。 Behind the gates of their elysian estate, hidden from street view in the caretaker’s cottage … lives Wells’ first wife, Sylvie。

Three years ago, the original Mrs。 Westmore suffered an unfortunate accident—and hasn’t uttered a sound since。 Not a physician, psychologist, or world-renown specialist has been able to elicit so much as a word from the silent woman … until now。

On an ordinary Tuesday while Wells was away—despite instructions to never disturb the fragile woman—Jade visited her isolated predecessor bearing a peace offering: a bouquet of white lilies。 Only she wasn’t expecting Sylvie to have something for her as well: a slip of torn notebook paper with a single word scrawled in shaky black ink。

That word? Run。

This is my first Minka Kent book。 I’ve heard good things about this author, so I will try another of her books。 The story kept my interest, but was expecting a twist that never came。 Thank you, NetGalley, and Blackstone Publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest review。

This was my first book by the much-acclaimed Minka Kent and I'm excited to read more。The mystery was decent, the reveals twisty but not very mind-blowing。 I liked the pace and the writing because it kept me engaged throughout。 I feel like there was an opportunity for a bigger canvas for the story setup, because of the characters, but the story didn't explore that and hence didn't live up to its full potential。 This was my first book by the much-acclaimed Minka Kent and I'm excited to read more。The mystery was decent, the reveals twisty but not very mind-blowing。 I liked the pace and the writing because it kept me engaged throughout。 I feel like there was an opportunity for a bigger canvas for the story setup, because of the characters, but the story didn't explore that and hence didn't live up to its full potential。 。。。more

Awful! It is so poorly written and completely stupid。

Alex

Boring。 Simple characters。 Not much else to say about this one。 But I would read something else from this author that is hopefully more engaging。

This is not my usual flavor but a pretty good read。 A lot of twists throughout and had me guessing until the very end。 My only issue with the book was that it dragged toward the end but overall was pretty good。 New to me author but one I had to check out as a fellow Iowan! Enjoyed this book quite a bit!。I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Loved this book! Kept me on my toes and had really good twists I loved the ending how all The ladies came together to bring the perp down。 A good story about women having each other’s back。 I was confused still why Slyvie destroyed Jades closet and clothes? That wasn’t addressed really

A lot of people said this book had the same plot of verity, but is not , I can see some similarities but the one thing they did have in common is that this one will keep you also at the edge of your seat。 I enjoyed it。

Reader, I married him。 From my humble abode and work as a struggling writer, I moved to sumptuous mansion where all was taken care of。 Until I realised my husband’s first wife was still in residence, the madwoman in the attic。 Well, the locked-in woman in the pool house。 It was even suggested to Jane, sorry, Jade, that the madwoman might burn the house down。 Instead she contented herself with trashing Jade’s stuff, an act later shown, a bit rumly, to have been benign。 A run of the mill story abo Reader, I married him。 From my humble abode and work as a struggling writer, I moved to sumptuous mansion where all was taken care of。 Until I realised my husband’s first wife was still in residence, the madwoman in the attic。 Well, the locked-in woman in the pool house。 It was even suggested to Jane, sorry, Jade, that the madwoman might burn the house down。 Instead she contented herself with trashing Jade’s stuff, an act later shown, a bit rumly, to have been benign。 A run of the mill story about coercive control that was ultimately overcome by feminine solidarity。 That’s something that Jane didn’t have。 What is surprising is that the story ran on straight rails to its predicted end without even a pretence at bamboozling the reader。 All in all, with such a dearth of tactical narrative, it has to rely on local richness and texture。 I felt this didn’t work out either and was frequently puzzled by weird images (“eyes like two soulless voids” - is a soulless void even a thing?), uncertain grammar (“first thing’s first”) and tautology (“vintage heirloom” – marketing-hallowed though it is)。 I was disappointed, the name of the writer rang a happy bell, though I can’t now remember what for。 。。。more

This is a fantastic domestic thriller! This story had me verbally responding to what I was reading。 The only downside is that it was so short! It was quick to read but I wanted more from these characters and this story! Thrilling ride!

4。5 StarsA touch of Old Hollywood, a mysterious first wife, and a mystery that needs solving。 I suspected the ending but this was a great story nonetheless。 Enough surprises to keep you hooked! I listened to this book and unfortunately, I didn’t love one of the narrators but the main narrator was quite good。

Christina Zukas

A bit slow moving at the beginning, and then felt bit rushed to end。 Overall was a good book and I really liked the story line

Tracy Killough

This reminded me a lot of Verity The only thing keeping this from a 5 was the ending, such a great build and guessing game and then the ending was rushed。

Jackie

Kept my interest, but way too predictable。 Girl marries rich man whose ex-wife lives in the guest house, after her almost fatal accident that left her unable to speak。

One of the authors I have enjoyed is Minka Kent and her mysteries, I do also love her romances under her other pen name Winter Renshaw。 So it makes total sense that I enjoy both names。 In The Silent Woman, we meet newlywed Jade Westmore。 Jade finally has a perfect life and perfect house and what she believes is the perfect man。 Jade believes her husband is a caring man as he still looks after his first wife Sylvie。 She lives in the backyard cottage and has full-time care。 One day, her nurse leav One of the authors I have enjoyed is Minka Kent and her mysteries, I do also love her romances under her other pen name Winter Renshaw。 So it makes total sense that I enjoy both names。 In The Silent Woman, we meet newlywed Jade Westmore。 Jade finally has a perfect life and perfect house and what she believes is the perfect man。 Jade believes her husband is a caring man as he still looks after his first wife Sylvie。 She lives in the backyard cottage and has full-time care。 One day, her nurse leaves for a family emergency and Jade steps up。 Jade introduces herself and Sylvie gives her a note "RUN"。 Now Jade can't stop thinking about it and is now determined to get to the bottom of what happened and learn what she can about Sylvie and Well's relationship。 What happens though when she learns that all is not what it seems and that the night of Sylvie's accident, something more sinister happened? Can Jade get to the bottom of what happened to Sylvie and save not only herself but those around her whom she has come to care for? The other reason why I enjoyed this book, was because Jade was writing a biography about Well's mother and we read glimpses of her diary entries, etc。 If you love fast-paced thrillers, twisted lies, and secrets - then read on and grab your copy of The Silent Woman by Minka Kent today。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book。 I liked the strength of the current wife, Jade and how she would do anything to figure out what really happened to Sylvie。 How is it possible that Sylvie after her accident couldn't communicate at all could write 3 little letters。。 RUN。 I was surprised by the twist。 Not by who is was but why。 I do recommend this book, and hope you enjoy it too。 I really enjoyed this book。 I liked the strength of the current wife, Jade and how she would do anything to figure out what really happened to Sylvie。 How is it possible that Sylvie after her accident couldn't communicate at all could write 3 little letters。。 RUN。 I was surprised by the twist。 Not by who is was but why。 I do recommend this book, and hope you enjoy it too。 。。。more

This was an okay book but was quite predictable with a rushed ending。 It was an easy read and hopefully it has gotten me off my reading slump!

Great book。 I thought I had it figured out, then wasn’t so sure。 Also has a good end to it as well。
